For Crafts, Scrapbooking and Hobby Information

If you were ever curious about how to make money from a hobby you enjoy, try looking at trading in antiques as a way to supplement your income or to monetize your hobby expenses.

I remember when my mother was looking at old antique clipper-ship paintings and Lalique vases as a way to buy low and sell high to help our family make the mortgage payments during tough financial times.  I was amazed that there was such a profit to be made doing this and it always amazed me, even though as a little boy I wasn’t totally overjoyed at the prospect of going to yard sales, and bargain-hunting with my mother.

Although, after seeing the profit margin for what she was doing, I became very interested in this method of potetial income.  As a matter of fact, I was a bit of a workaholic when I was younger, and had a morning paper route, an afternoon paper route, and a paper stand to tend to on Sundays, plus I was a caddy at a nearby golf course.  The positive side to all of this work was that I was somewhat self-sufficient as a 9-year-old and always had cash in my pocket, while none of my friends did.

Anyways, the potential for profit by deliving into the antiques furniture niche market is a lot higher than the one of buying low and selling high for vases and paintings.  With the antiques market, and the advent and popularity of the Antiques Road Show, more people are going through their old storage areas and attics to see if there are any treasures locked away.  Since more people are now becoming educated about antiques and antiques furniture, this leads to a more educated seller, but it also leads to more inventory becoming available for sale.

Going through some of your old stored-away items may lead to a discovery of some valuable keepsake sor heirlooms you didn’t know you had and you will profit from this by re-selling these valuables or by taking a walk down Memory Lane.  Craigslist and eBay are 2 othe rplaces you can find antiques for sale as well.
